Past Projects

Nocturne
A series of landscape paintings at night. These paintings are large format impasto oil on canvas inspired by moonlit walks through the woods and the etherial music of Frédéric Chopin, and Claude DeBussy. Particularly Chopin's Nocturne Opus 27 No. 2 and Debussy's Claire de Lune which moved me deeply..

Each of these paintings are created late in the evening in my studio by the stream well after the eyes adjust to the dark. The paintings commence under moonlight and candle light over several sessions to build up the surface of the work. The pieces are then completed outdoors under natural light.

Creating these pieces has been a memorable experience. The swell of the wind through the trees knit with the harmonies of the frogs and cicedas softened by background weapings of Chopin's suites have drawn me into a revere with nature and nightime prayer. These paintings are governed by chance and passion and have been the most freeing and satisfying of any of my collections. Though it has been difficult to leave behind the structures of working under favorable Northern light to carefully construct the piece, this process has allowed me to revisit the energy of my younger years; consumed with the want to create though only afforded late night hours, and many times painting repetedly over the same canvas.

Changing World a series of paintings in oil detailing the change that human beings inflict upon the environment. See landscape Cityscape Exhibition
